Hi there, it's Yiming here. It's been two months again since I sent out one of these updates lol I keep forgetting...

What's New

Our Paint v0.3a is released!

I have fixed some bugs relating to AMD video cards where it will show blue screen after starting Our Paint. The rest is just generic optimizations and bug fixing.

It's not a major update, but I do recommend you to use v0.3a if you are already using v0.3 since in v0.3 the file can become unreadable if you saved it with a completely empty layer with multithread write option turned on. The option is still OFF by default, however it's been quite stable this whole time, so in v0.4 I can make it ON by default.

A new painting is done Rolling Wave. You can check out some sketches like this^↗

Prior to that I did some experiments on egg tempera paintings with ground minerals, turns out kinda nice^↗ but I somewhat don't like the coarse texture at the moment. It's a fun experiment nonetheless.

Oh, I've been making this video camera

My old Canon G3X is working just fine but I want some parfocal lenses for videoing. Could not afford any of the cine zooms so I bough some dirt cheap C-Mount CCTV-camera lenses and a Fujinon Th16x5.5 lens (which is parfocal yay), and made a (prototype of) raspberry-pi video camera. Recently it took some pretty nice pictures and videos. You can see some pictures and videos I made in this post^↗.

I wrote the camera software with LaGUI too!

Other stuff

Still regular works stuff with Blender. Nothing fancy yet.

On the 3d print figure thing, it's unfortunately not successful at all. The joints need tough nylon like resin and those are very hard to print on my machine. It's either you print slow as hell or fail. Which means it would make no practical sense for me to manufacture these 3d prints at home. I have since sold the resin printer and I got a FDM one (bamboolab P1S), it's been working just fine and it's printed this temporary jig I got for the raspberry pi DIY video camera project.

Plans

Actually I have no idea. Maybe less distraction and focus on art more. It's been a lot of sidetracks lately and I wish things can go more smoothly when I focus on less stuff. Making shit was quite stressful because I don't know when to stop...
