On Thursday, Australian news site Crikey reported the personal data of 31,150 present and former Optus customers who owed money to the telecommunications company had been posted on Freelancer.com, an online job outsourcing marketplace.

The breach came after an employee of debt collector ARC Mercantile uploaded the data onto the website in a spreadsheet in an effort to offload the job of analysing it. The sensitive information included customer's names, dates of birth, debt history and physical addresses, Crikey reported, and was accessed by 51 potential freelancers. Read more...
