    LOW POLYGON DESIGN
By Johnny Chen, Stephanie Chan, Juan Pablo Costanzo

Low Polygon design is starting to become a new trend recently, it’s more like a natural extension of flat design, low poly design is the use of simple, colourful polygons to imitate an object or used as a background.

Low Poly was originally used in 3D model making. The low polygonal resolution was faster to render images in 3D. Most recently it has caught on as an illustration technique because of its versatility, simplicity and provides an unique 3D model crossed with the paper-craft or origami aesthetics. Despite what it might imply, it is not low resolution but rather purposely rendered using the fewest amount of polygons needed to recognize the image in order to produce the abstract flavor. It is only the simplification of shapes as in-depth utilization of textures, shading and lighting effects continues to apply.

While the traditional way is to use 3D software to create the low poly look there are currently many tool out there that will help you mimic the look and feel as well…

    Artistically, it is especially interesting

with its combination of texture and dimensionality as seen in the examples below as well as an interactive storybook iOS app
