General objective

I need to hire a tutor who can teach me C++ and how to integrate it with R. For this, I need a tutor that has at least 2 years of experience with R and ideally that writes C++ code professionally.

Specific objectives

• I want to fix my code for fixest2, and while the core functions work, there are memory leaks and double/integer cast problems
• I want to learn more about how to think computationally, not just that somebody tells me how to fix specific problems
• I need to write efficient code for my dissertation, and I want to learn good practices for this rather than having a collection of many “this works on my laptop” solutions

About me

I am a professional statistician with some computer science knowledge. I had to learn SQL, rsync, bash, and some other things to start writing my dissertation without much struggle, but I don’t have a computer science degree.

I know linear algebra (9 semesters as a TA between undergrad and masters) but my struggle is that the whiteboard + marker doesn’t need me to specify that 2.0 is a “double” and 1 is an “integer”, and I get quite lost when R or Python automatically “guess” and convert the matrices for me but then C++ doesn’t like the inputs I give to it.

Honestly, I’ve been thinking about giving up with C++ and using just R and Python, but part of my code that already works is around 20 times faster and the models that I use for the dissertation are computationally demanding.
